Support to Private Initiatives for End-to-End Satcom Solutions with Security, Safety and/or Sovereignty Requirements

Discover the new funding opportunities from ESA Space Systems for Safety and Security (4S) programme

ESA Connectivity & Secure Communications will host a webinar on 7 November 2024, from 10:00 to 11:30 CET, to provide key insights into the opportunities and timelines for the ARTES 4S programme. This webinar will also present the currently active funding call aimed at supporting the industry in preparing for the next 4S missions.

The ARTES 4S programme

The European Space Agency’s ARTES 4S programme is focused on developing, validating, and deploying resilient and secure satellite communication infrastructure. This infrastructure will support safety-of-life communications and surveillance for Air Traffic Management and maritime safety. Looking ahead to the ESA Council at Ministerial level in November 2025 (CM25), which will set ESA funding for the next three years, ESA aims to have these solutions developed and validated in-orbit by 2028. Full deployment and operation are expected by the early 2030s.

The Funding Opportunity

Private companies or consortia, supported by ESA Member States through ARTES 4S, will design, develop, and validate these infrastructures. In the short term, they need to finalise their plans and seek support at CM25 to achieve in-orbit validation by 2028. Support can be requested through the open ARTES 4S call, “Funding Opportunity: Support to Private Initiatives for End-to-End Satcom Solutions with Security, Safety and/or Sovereignty Requirements”.

To discover more about the 4S support and funding opportunities, please register to the webinar by 6 November at 10.00 CEST.
